C escapes prison for tax and benefit fraud offence

Ben Jones, Director, represented C who appeared before the Bradford Crown Court with her husband charged with offences of failing to declare her income and associated offences of overpayment of benefits due to this under declaration. The prosecution alleged that the two figures combined amounted to £102,000. We instructed a skilled forensic accountant- Beverley Ibbotson of Forths, Leeds- who armed with our detailed instructions prepared a report which placed the figure at closer to £51,000. This was later agreed by the prosecution expert.

Such a reduction in figures allowed our client to plead guilty to charges that represented her actions. A forceful mitigation was placed before the court that resulted in her receiving a fully suspended sentence and maintaining her liberty.

Counsel instructed was Mr Peter Hampton of Broadway House Chambers, Bradford.

Case represented by Ben Jones, Opus Law.
